Queen of the North Sinks

A familiar sight in northern waters was the Queen of the North, a BC ferry serving on the Inside passage route between Port Hardy, on Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert.

Originally named Stena Danica, this ship was built in 1969 in Germany. She was purchase by the BC Ferry Corp. in 1974 and rechristened Queen of Surrey.

SV Salty Dog makes the San Francisco Bay its new home ( for awhile)

After an aborted attempt to sail to Australia with an "internet" crew and storm damage, Salty Dog limped into San Francisco last year. This Porpoise class fore and aft rigged schooner road well in heavy seas but the old foremast was no match for the strain of heavy high winds on too much sail.
