July & August Gleanings
Written by wbnet
West Beach Calvert Island July to date has not been great in terms of weather. Several boaters in the North Coast have given up and headed south, but hate to tell them that it is no better below Cape Caution. A high is building so better weather is on its way we all hope. Some tidbits we have gleaned from various cruisers:

Rumour: Pruth Bay- The resort has new owners? Seems the trail is open again. Anyone able to confirm this, please let us know. email us

Rivers Inlet: Duncanby- New owners have made many great changes: new visitors dock, new ramps, new upper area complete with gazebo structure, rebuilt restaurant and kitchen. Looks great and welcoming.

Minstrel Island Marina has been sold. We have heard it is to be a private resort. Anyone having more info, please contact us

Gorge Harbour- Cortez: New owners

We have spent thrilling times watching a variety of whales and marine mammals from our boat and kayaks. The amazing and speedy Dall porpoises will bow ride and swim past at amazing speeds, their surfacing causing rooster tail splashes. Quiet and shy Harbour porpoises can be seen from the boat as crescent shaped surfacings. The playful and acrobatic Pacific White-sided Dolphin are often encountered and enjoyed, often in a profound "connection" between species.
