After an aborted attempt to sail to Australia with an "internet" crew and storm damage, Salty Dog limped into San Francisco last year. This Porpoise class fore and aft rigged schooner road well in heavy seas but the old foremast was no match for the strain of heavy high winds on too much sail. Australia turned out to be a huge immigration dissappointment so I moved the family back to the boat at Richmond on the East Bay. Since then Salty Dog has been rerigged, repaired and upgraded and has recieved a "Bristol" condition at the last survey. So she is ready to explore the Bay area and all its wonderful sights. What a great sailing area.
Salty Dog is a William Garden design built in Sooke, BC in 1972. Her hull is yellow cedar strip planked ( how do you check the fasteners, the surveyor said, when there arent any) and ready for blue water again. |
